There are two ways to display the Volume Creation Wizard:

Click ‘Next’ to start the wizard.

If you have never run the wizard before, you will be asked to create an administrator password. This password is required to make system changes like creating and deleting volumes. Once you have entered the same password twice, click ‘Next’.

If you have already created an administrator password, you will be asked instead to enter it.

Select ‘Restore a Volume’ and click ‘Next’.

In order to restore a MagnaStor volume from the cloud, you need to have a restore source and a destination device.

If your restore source has already been added to the system you can skip this step.

For this example we’ll assume we have to add an Amazon S3 bucket which contains the replicated volume you wish to restore.

  1. Enter your Amazon Access Key ID.
  2. Enter your Amazon Secret Access Key.
  3. Click ‘Next’.

Select the bucket containing the volume you wish to restore.

  1. Select a device for your MagnaStor restoration. All existing data on this device will be deleted.
  2. Enter the name for your MagnaStor volume. This is used to uniquely identify it (i.e. ‘My Archive’).
  3. Create and confirm a password for the volume. This password is used to encrypt the volume when it is replicated to the cloud.
  4. The restore source is the volume you wish to restore from the cloud.
  5. Enter and confirm the password that was chosen when the volume was first created.
NOTE: It is impossible to restore a volume without its password.
  6. Click ‘Next’.

Your volume restoration has been initiated. You can monitor its progress using the replication details panel. Click ‘Finish’ to dismiss the wizard.

Once the data has been transferred from the source to the destination, we can proceed to the final step, promotion.

The last step is to promote the restoration slave so that it is once again writeable.

Type ‘PROMOTE’ and click ‘Ok’.
